2020 Courageous Convictions
Tasting notes
This wine is our homage to Vintage Port from the Douro Valley. Made using traditional methods using traditional grape varieties, the wine exhibits a beautiful balance between the high, grippy tannins, high acidity, exquisite fruit concentration and fruit intensity, the high 20% alcohol and the 100 g/L residual sugar. Richly fruited, powerful, elegant, and complex with a persistent finish comprising refreshing acidity that acts as ballast to the enticingly sweet expression. If enjoying now, a decant is suggested. Properly cellared, this wine will gracefully evolve for 20+ years and should reach maturity in 10 years.
Production notes
After destemming the classic Port grape varieties (Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cão, Souzão), the grapes are foot-treaded and punch down to achieve maximum but gentle extraction. 100% native fermentation. The primary fermentation is arrested using 77% alcohol neutral spirit, leaving 100 g/L residual sugar. The wine is aged in neutral French oak for 18 months. The alcohol is 20%, pH is 3.78, and the titratable acidity is 5.7 g/L. 235 Cases (12 375 mL bottles) produced.
