2017 QED Convergence
Tasting notes

The 2017 QED Convergence is ripe and structured, with supple tannins and racy acidity. The complex bouquet consists of blackberry, kirsch, bacon fat, white pepper, cured meats, and grilled herbs. Nuances of gravel, and tar can also be noted. The palate is beautifully layered and complex: blackberry, huckleberry, kirsch dominate but notes of bacon fat, honeysuckle, truffle mushroom, Asian spices, and grilled herbs support. The racy acidity and substantial yet refined tannins provide a nice counterpoint to the fruit vibrancy. The very long finish echoes tones of kirsch, bacon fat, cured meats and white pepper.  The wine should reach maturity in 7-9 years and will hold for approximately 15+ years.

71% Syrah, 14% Mourvedre, 11% Grenache, 4% Viognier

Production notes

The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration average of 128 hours and a post-fermentation maceration average of 98 hours. Native fermentation was used on all of the lots. 60% whole clusters were used to give added structure. The wine was punched down by hand 3 times each day during macerations and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending. The oak profile is 20% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers) and 80% neutral French oak. The wine had an elevage of 24 months in oak and was racked three times but not fined. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees. The alcohol is 14.7%, pH is 3.74, and the titratable acidity is 6.2 g/L. 134 Cases produced.

2017 Rasa Vineyards ‘QED Convergence’

The 2017 ‘QED Convergence’ blends 71% Syrah with smaller parts Mouvedre, Grenache and a touch of Viognier. Smoked meats and tobacco notes combine with milk chocolate and shades of Hoisin sauce on the nose. The palate is dense and plush as this is beautifully texturally. This finishes very long and shows great flavor density alongside the rich core of dark fruits. Drink 2021-2033- 94 Points, Owen Bargreen, Vinous
