Winemaker Notes: Glass staining, saturated dark purple color with intense notes of ripe huckleberry, blueberry, blackberry, menthol, clove, and smoldering incense. On the palate, high intensity flavors of huckleberry, black raspberry, tobacco, licorice, gravel, and dark chocolate. Nuances of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, and tar resonate on the long finish. High glycerol and high levels of dry extract with ripe, luscious tannins and vibrant acidity. With a proper decant, this wine can be enjoyed in the next year or two. It should reach optimal maturity in 6-8 years and hold for 12+ years.

Fermentation: The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 135 hours and was punched down by hand 3 times each day during macerations and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending.

Cooperage: The oak profile is 30% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers) and 70% neutral French oak. The wine achieved its sparkly brilliance from 3 judicious rackings, no fining agents were employed. The wine was very gently filtered using crossflow filtration.

A touch of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were blended into this inky colored wine. Distinctly herbal on the nose, this shows off sage and mic chocolate with dark fruits on the nose. The palate shows a wonderful tension and weight, showing off milk chcolate, sweet pipe tobacco, leather, anise and copious acidity. The poise here suggests this will be an exceedingly long ager. This is truly one of the best, if not the best, Petit Verdot made in Washington Drink 2019-2033

Bright ruby-red. Aromas of blueberry, blackberry, licorice, black pepper and minerals convey a slightly inky character. Densely pack and highly-concentrated but with a light touch thanks to its sound balance of sweetness and acidity. The dark berry flavors are not yet particularly complex or expressive but this wine has the energy, inner-mouth floral lift and tannic structure to gain with age. Finishes juicy, firm and very long. I like this style but it calls for patience. Drinking window: 2020-2028.
