2017 Primus Inter Pares
Winemaker Notes: 100% Grenache from Monette’s Vineyard in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater. This wine has a light ruby color with an intense bouquet of kirsch, framboise, rose petal, forest floor, incense, and white pepper. Full bodied with penetrating, precise flavors of kirsch, raspberry, white pepper, licorice, wild thyme, espresso, and stony minerality. Medium level of rich, silky tannins and crisp acidity help support the high intensity and high fruit concentration found in this wine. The wine will reach maturity in 6-8 years and provide pleasurable drinking for 12+ years..
Fermentation: The 2017 primus had a pre-fermentation maceration of 148 hours and a post-fermentation maceration of 60 hours. 100% native yeast fermentation. The wine was punched down by hand 3 times each day during macerations and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending.
Cooperage: The oak profile is 100% neutral French oak. The wine was not racked and remained on its lees until bottling. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees. The wine has not been fined.
