2017 Primus Inter Pares
2017 Primus Inter Pares

Winemaker Notes: 100% Grenache from Monette’s Vineyard in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater. This wine has a light ruby color with an intense bouquet of kirsch, framboise, rose petal, forest floor, incense, and white pepper. Full bodied with penetrating, precise flavors of kirsch, raspberry, white pepper, licorice, wild thyme, espresso, and stony minerality. Medium level of rich, silky tannins and crisp acidity help support the high intensity and high fruit concentration found in this wine. The wine will reach maturity in 6-8 years and provide pleasurable drinking for 12+ years..

Fermentation: The 2017 primus had a pre-fermentation maceration of 148 hours and a post-fermentation maceration of 60 hours. 100% native yeast fermentation. The wine was punched down by hand 3 times each day during macerations and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending.

Cooperage: The oak profile is 100% neutral French oak. The wine was not racked and remained on its lees until bottling. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees. The wine has not been fined.

Sourced from the Monette’s Vineyard in the... "Rocks" AVA... the ‘Primus Inter Pares’ opens with a highly intoxicating bouquet, exhibiting beautiful range from red rose petals to Mandarin orange rind and smoky tones that mingle with red cherry puree that all mingle marvelously in the glass. The palate is silky smooth, delivering a wonderful seamless quality as the wine effortlessly glides across the mid-palate. The purity of fruit is marvelous as red cherry, red raspberry, guava puree and shades of wet stone with smoked blood orange flavors. The verve and brightness of the wine really shines. Enjoy this stunning Grenache over the next decade or more. Drink 2019-2029.
