2012 primus inter pares

Winemaker Notes: 100% Grenache from Monette's Vineyard in “the Rocks” area of Walla Walla. This wine has medium dense purple color with a positively riveting bouquet of kirsch, raspberry, cherry blossom, minerals, and white pepper. The wine is a bit of a paradox: nuanced and delicate with exceptional purity and density of flavor. Silky tannins frame an incredibly rich and complex palate with seductive notes of kirsch, raspberry, strawberry, minerals, violet, licorice, and white pepper. The wine has an exuberant youthful quality that predicts a long life ahead. The wine will evolve gracefully for 12-15 years and will likely hit its optimum drinking window in 6-8 years. Harvest date: October 23, 3011.

Fermentation: The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 146 hours and a post-fermentation maceration of 55 hours. The wine was punched down by hand 3 times each day during macerations and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending.

Cooperage: The oak profile is 20% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers) and 80% neutral French oak.

An awesome Grenache, the 2012 Primus Inter Pares comes from the Monette’s Vineyard in Walla Walla. Deep, rich and layered, with knockout black raspberry, kirsch, licorice and floral notes, it flows onto the palate with full-bodied richness, sweet fruit and a seamless, elegant feel that stretches out beautifully on the finish. It’s a sexy, impeccably made Grenache to drink over the coming 8-10 years

High-toned rose petal perfume to the aromas of red raspberry, crushed rock, cocoa powder and cumin. Very dry and energetic but also offers an insidiously opulent fruit character to the flavors of cherry, Near Eastern spices and white pepper, as well as a sappy crushed-stone minerality. Very suave Grenache with a firm, long finish calling for a bit of patience.
