2013 QED Convergence
Winemaker Notes: The 2013 QED offers complex aromatics with a dense mid-palate and a very long finish. The aromatics consists of captivating notes of black raspberry, kirsch, blackberry, supported by notes of cedar, spice, vanilla, earth, lavender, dark chocolate, and white pepper. On the palate the complexity continues with notes of kirsch, blackberry, blueberry, spice, black truffle, gravel, scorched earth, and smoked meat. Overtones of vanilla, white pepper, and tar can also be found. This wine has the signature of all the Rasa wines: gorgeous mouthfeel, exquisite balance, refined tannins, and a long, resonant finish. The wine should reach maturity in 6-8 years and will hold for approximately 15+ years.
Fermentation: The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration average of 156 hours and a post-fermentation maceration average of 105 hours. Native fermentation was used on 75% of the lots. 25% whole clusters were used to give added structure. The wine was punched down by hand 2 times each day during macerations and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees.
Cooperage: The oak profile is 20% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers) and 80% neutral French oak. The wine had an elevage of 30 months in oak and was racked three times but not fined.
